What Is 1 More?

In short, 1 More, is our church fundraising campaign for both our facilities and operational budgets. The idea streams from our passion for  seeing one more person come to know Jesus.

In January of 2021, The Port launched in Reid and Lori Guy's backyard in North Mobile. For a year, this church plant hopped from one temporary location to another, even spending about 4 months in the Fellowship Hall of a local Catholic Church. At the same time, unbeknownst to them, the people of New Hope Baptist Church in Mobile were praying about the future of their church. In November of 2021, the people of New Hope Baptist Church decided to reach out to another local church about merging congregations. A month later, on December 19th, 2021, both churches approved the merger and on February 20th, 2022, the two churches became one, celebrating their first service  together.

Our church campus is located on the campus of the University of South Alabama. While everyone of all ages are invited to The Port, one of the main focuses of The Port since its inception has been college students and young adults. We desire to equip young adults with a solid understanding of Jesus and scripture, and prepare them to be gospel-centered adults wherever God takes them.

Like our personal homes, our church home needs to be maintained, updated, and repaired. The Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall buildings are decades old and need to be updated to allow The Port to do the ministry God has called us, along with being brought up to code. The church leadership has an extensive long-term and short-term facilities plan. This plan immediately addresses our HVAC units, replacement of the sanctuary roof, and replacement of windows and doors to become more energy efficient and stop current deterioration. Other parts of the plan includes many projects like updating classrooms for our kids ministry, making bathrooms ADA accessible, and adding a playground for the neighborhood children.

Along with addressing our facilities, our 1 More campaign also addresses our operations. Bringing together a new church plant with a church that has seen its share of challenges, can bring about a host of opportunities, but also a number of obstacles. For a new church plant, its primary income comes from outside sources. Statistics show, it takes 3-5 years for a church to become self-sufficient, so in that time, the church relies not only on its own partitioners, but also other churches, organizations, and individuals.  As our church continues to grow, the financial needs to operate the church increases, but our operation budget just doesn't cover utilities.

At The Port, we have a strategy that heavily revolves around sharing the gospel and meeting people in their time of need. A few of the ministries we currently offer at The Port are Celebrate Recovery and a food ministry that served almost 2,000 meals in 2021. In the future, our plan includes a ministry to assist single and expecting mothers in college and a coffee shop. We believe God has placed us in a perfect location to be a safe haven for mothers and expecting mothers looking for answers. We are partnering with some incredible organizations in our area to help meet the needs of these moms. Another ministry we desire to see launched in the next year is turning our Fellowship Hall into a coffee shop during the week. Some churches have clothes closets, others have food pantries. We believe our location gives us an opportunity to offer our neighbors something different, a local place to have good coffee, free internet, and a nice place to study or hangout with friends. It's an ideal ministry for our location.

Whether its replacing windows or serving coffee, we do it all with one hope, to lead one more person to Jesus. Our church doesn't live or die by the facilities, but our facilities do serve as our hub that God has given us to do ministry throughout our city and around the world. In order to continue to do the ministry God has called us to, we need your help.

We ask that you consider pledging a once a month gift for the next three years. We are searching for 10 churches, businesses, organizations, or individuals to pledge $1,000 per month for the next 3 years, 5 to pledge $500, 100 to pledge $100, and 25 to pledge $25. If God is leading you to partner with us in sharing the gospel and reaching people for Jesus, please know we are grateful. If this is you, please click on the Give Now button below. This will redirect you to our Giving page, where you will have the opportunity to make a one-time gift, or set up a recurring gift for the amount you desire.
